Police are now confirming an elderly woman who died in the small town of Kearney on Sunday was murdered.

Tonight, they have some new information about who they're looking for in a crime that has shocked the small town.

All along, people in town have been saying that Dolores White was attacked by someone. And now OPP are asking for help to find that person.

Officers say they are looking for the man who got into White's home this weekend. The 85-year-old was seriously hurt and she died in hospital. Police don't have a lot of information about the suspect – only that he's about six feet tall, 170 pounds, and he was wearing dark clothing at the time of the attack.

It’s unclear whether the suspect and White knew each other.

“The exact specifics with regards to the entry into the residence is something I can't speak to,” says OPP Sgt. Peter Leon. “I don't want to compromise the integrity of the work that's being done so far. That being said, our detectives are continuing to work. They're following up on any information that comes in.”

White’s death is being called a homicide.

White was well known in Kearney. She lived there for years and used to be a school teacher. She also lived alone, in her home along Main Street.

Many residents are still feeling uneasy about what happened and police are asking residents to be extra careful, to lock their doors, and make sure they report any suspicious activity.
