Impaired driving charges laid after fatal collision in Innisfil

Police have charged a driver in connection with a collision in Innisfil on Thursday evening that claimed the life of one person.

South Simcoe police officers were called to the crash on Yonge Street between the 14th Line and Gilford Road around 8:40 p.m.

They say a pickup truck travelling northbound collided head-on with a sedan heading in the other direction, causing significant damage to both vehicles.

The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not released the identity of the deceased.

Officers charged a 35-year-old man from Shelburne with impaired driving causing death and operation while impaired.

The road was closed for several hours for the investigation.

Police are continuing their investigation and ask anyone with information, including dash cam footage, to contact the investigating officer at (705) 436-2141 ext 2032.
