Collingwood OPP spent the day going door-to-door in a waterfront neighbourhood after a body was found in a home two days ago.

Yellow crime scene tape surrounds a condominium unit in Collingwood's west end while police officers guard the scene from all sides. The OPP's criminal investigations branch has been there all day after a body was discovered inside the condo yesterday morning.

At this point in their investigation, officers are releasing very little about the person who was found dead inside.

Bud Slocki was surprised to see all of the police activity here.

“Got here about 2 p.m. yesterday afternoon, the tape was up,” Slocki says. “There was a white van looked like the forensics truck so there was quite a bit of activity going on.”

The forensic unit has wrapped up and an autopsy has been scheduled in Toronto. However, officers continued to canvas the neighbourhood today asking residents if they saw anything unusual over the past few days.

Neighbours say an older, retired couple have been living in the condominium unit and their son would visit periodically.

“You have to realize that the investigation is ongoing so we don't want to jeopardize the investigation or release information that has not been confirmed,” says OPP Const. Martin Hachey. “So when information does become available we will make a further media release.”

While police go about their business residents here have been left wondering if the death is the result of foul play. Monica Mondrow knows the man who lives in the condo.

“It’s strange because we don't get that up here, it's a very quiet street,” she says. “Collingwood is quiet you know? It was kind of shocking actually, couldn't believe that was happening, you could see the neighbours are talking because things like that are unusual.”

Collingwood police expect that more information to become available as their investigation continues. Police have not expressed any concern for public safety.
