A man accused of carjacking a vehicle in Orangeville on Monday faces several charges.

Provincial police say a man flagged down a motorist, implying he had a problem with his tire, and when the motorist got out of the vehicle to inspect the issue, the man jumped in the driver's seat.

Police say a 10-year-old child sitting in the backseat got out of the vehicle before the accused took off.

The next day, police officers arrested a man who they say matched the suspect description, and allegedly had drugs, cash, and a weapon in his possession.

They say officers discovered the accused was in breach of several court orders.

Officers executed a search warrant at the man's Orangeville residence and allegedly seized stolen credit cards.

The accused faces charges of operating a vehicle while prohibited, vehicle theft over $5,000, unauthorized possession of a weapon, and drug-related offences, among others.

The 36-year-old accused was held for a bail hearing.
