Passenger charged with assaulting Barrie transit driver

A passenger accused of assaulting a Barrie Transit driver, kicking a police officer and damaging a bus faces multiple charges.
Barrie police were called to Essa Road and Burton Avenue after a transit driver said a young man had assaulted him, broken a rear-exit door window, and the acrylic divider near the driver’s seat during rush hour on Friday.
A 19-year-old, of no-fixed address, was quickly located by police, and allegedly kicked one of the arresting officers.
Police say no one was seriously injured in either incident, and the damage to the bus is repairable.

The accused was brought to the police station, and charged with assault, mischief under $5,000, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, assaulting police and breach of a youth sentence order.
Police say they also discovered he was wanted on an outstanding warrant for assault, and as a result, the man was held pending a bail hearing on Saturday.
He was released from custody with conditions that also require him to appear in court on April 17.
