Pair of sleeping drivers charged in drug bust

Two drivers are facing charges after they were allegedly found sleeping in their respective vehicles and possessing a quantity drugs Saturday afternoon in Waubaushene.
According to Southern Georgian OPP, officers responded to a community member’s report of a possible impaired driver around 3:30 p.m. in the commercial area of Pine Street near Highway 12.
Police say a black Volkswagen and a white Mazda were parked tightly next to each other in a commercial parking lot off Pine Street, and that both drivers were asleep when officers arrived.

The responding officers woke up both drivers, spoke to them and detained them. Police say the officers also seized a quantity of suspected methamphetamines, Canadian currency, aerosol cans and assorted drug paraphernalia.
Both drivers, a 36-year-old man from South Glengarry Township and a 31-year-old woman from Williamstown, were charged with operation while impaired. The male driver was also charged for methamphetamine possession.
Both accused parties were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court later in the month.
Their licences were suspended for 90 days and their vehicles were towed, subject to being impounded for seven days.
OPP are reminding motorists of their annual Festive RIDE campaign during the holiday season and to avoid impaired driving by planning ahead.
