Two men have been charged with manslaughter in connection with an April fentanyl overdose in Innisfil.

A 23-year-old man was found dead of an apparent overdose on April 10. A toxicology report later confirmed he overdosed on fentanyl and heroin.

At the time, South Simcoe Police arrested 23-year-old Ryan Walker and 55-year-old Tahir Ali, both of Innisfil, on drug trafficking charges.

Investigators said Ali was using his taxi cab to sell the drugs.

"The opioid crisis in our country has reached epidemic proportions", said deputy chief Robin McElary-Downer in a statement.

South Simcoe Police arrested the pair again on Wednesday, charging them both with manslaughter.

"Drug dealers must be held accountable for their actions if we're going to make a difference. We hope this is the first step in making a change."

Both men will appear in court at a future date for a bail hearing.
