A small fire burned in a pool shed of a Town of the Blue Mountains residence Saturday afternoon, prompting fire officials to remind residents to check their heating appliances ahead of the winter season.

Around 5 p.m., more than a half dozen units responded to the scene near Gord Canning Drive and Carmichael Crescent.

There were no injuries reported. The fire caused less than $5,000 in damage to the shed and no damage to the residence.

Fire chief Stephen Conn told CTV News that an overheated pool heater in the shed was the suspected cause of the fire. As a result of the incident, he encourages residents to verify that their heating appliances are in proper working order going into the winter season.
