OPP are warning the public about a telephone scam, where the caller poses as a representative from the homeowner’s security alarm provider.

Police say the call starts with the individual saying he’s “from your alarm company” and informs the resident their system isn’t working properly.

They say the caller is aggressive and will pry for your personal information. Police say if you receive a call similar to this to not provide any information.

If a resident is suspicious, they should ask the caller for a contact number. Police say this way the resident can compare it to the number provided by their alarm company.

OPP say a reputable company will always identify themselves and will provide a contact number at the time of installation.
