OPP renews appeal for tips in Sonia Varaschin’s unsolved murder
Fourteen years since the murder of 42-year-old Sonia Varaschin, police say the search for her killer continues with another appeal to the public for information that could help solve the case.
Police say Varaschin's Toyota Corolla was discovered abandoned behind a business on Broadway in downtown Orangeville on August 30, 2010.
Officers went to her home and said they discovered a "violent event" had occurred.

The Orangeville Police Service (OPS), which was handling the case at the time, then requested the OPP's help with the investigation.
Less than a week later, on September 5, 2010, Varaschin's remains were found in a wooded area off Beech Grove Sideroad in Caledon by a man walking his dog.
"Sonia was targeted. However, she may not have known who did this to her, but they knew who she was," said Det. Insp. Shawn Glassford in a 2020 video.
The Criminal Investigation Branch now leads the investigation, and police say it remains active.
Investigators believe that someone is holding a piece of information that could help identify Varaschin's killer and bring closure to her loved ones.
"They [public] may have always thought of something that in their minds may have been trivial. We want them to come forward because we will decide if it's trivial or not. We know where all the pieces go," Glassford continued in the video.
A $50,000 reward is still offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for Sonia Varaschin's murder.
Police say the smallest detail could be the key to solving this case and ensuring justice.
"The OPP will never close an unsolved homicide," police stated in a release on Friday.
