A Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program and a driving complaint have led Southern Georgian Bay OPP to two impaired driving investigations this past week.

At around 2 a.m. this past Thursday, officers who were conducting a RIDE program on Highway 12 near Wye Valley Road in Midland investigated one of the vehicles they stopped for driving while impaired by drugs. Police say another investigation was conducted by a drug recognition expert (DRE) officer.

As a result, a 65-year-old Penetanguishene man was charged with impaired driving, driving while under suspension, and driving without insurance.

Then, at around 4 p.m. on Saturday, officers responded to reports of a potentially impaired driver causing a disturbance at the Tay Township marina. The suspect was located and investigated for drinking and driving, which led to a 48-year-old Barrie man getting charged with two impaired driving offences.

Both accused parties had their licenses suspended for 90 days, and vehicles impounded for seven days. They were released and scheduled for future court dates.
