OPP investigate weapons call in Meaford community, prompting hold and secure measure

Police have lifted a hold and secure in a Meaford community that began early Wednesday afternoon.

Police said they received a complaint about a weapon on Victoria Street around 1 p.m. Wednesday, prompting an increased police presence in the areas of Victoria Street, Ridge Road, Susan Street and Andrews Drive.

"Out of an abundance of caution, Georgian Bay Community School was place on a hold and secure, and the community was asked to remain in their residences," police stated.

They also asked residents to avoid the area.

Provincial police say officers are trying to verify the information received, but confirmed the hold and secure had been lifted shortly before 5 p.m.

They ask anyone with information or who was in the area of Victoria Street around 1 p.m. Wednesday to call the authorities at 1-888-310-1122.
