A veteran OPP officer is facing an assault charge following an incident at an amusement park in Bracebridge.

Bracebridge OPP says the alleged incident happened in June at Santa's Village involving a woman and a young person.

They say the woman left before police arrived, but the investigation revealed the accused was a provincial constable with 21 years of service in the OPP.

Police say the officer was off duty at the time of the alleged incident and is currently away on an unrelated leave.

The 45-year-old officer, who is also a Bracebridge resident, is scheduled to appear before the courts in October.
