Highway 69 traffic stop results in drug charges for southern Ont. man

Case shows complexity of drug investigations Drug busts may seem routine, but a recent court case in Sudbury shows how much careful investigation and attention to detail is required.

A Highway 69 traffic stop on the weekend resulted in the seizure of $40,000 in suspected cocaine and charges for a southern Ontario man, police say.

Around 3 p.m. Sunday, officers pulled a vehicle over for a driver sobriety check near Magnetawan First Nation, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release.

"Officers located cannabis readily available to the driver and a subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in officers locating a large quantity of suspected cocaine," OPP said.

As a result, a 21-year-old Brampton man is charged with drug trafficking, drug possession, driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available and possession of property obtained by crime more than $5,000.

A photo of the items seized by police show a brick of the suspected cocaine on a scale that reads 1,035 grams, two suspected joints and a cellphone.

He was held for bail and will be returning to the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on Dec. 18.
