Provincial police warn motorists that speeding through a school zone carries a hefty fine.

Police say they continue to focus their attention in school zones now that students are back in class.

"Remember, even the most excited kids may not be paying attention to their surroundings," OPP stated.

On Tuesday, a 38-year-old motorist was charged for allegedly speeding 62 kilometres per hour in a 40 km/h zone in a Thornbury school zone.

The accused faces a $250 fine and three demerit points for the offence.

Police say officers will have an increased presence in school zones to ensure the safety of students, parents and staff.

"Please be extra cautious and adhere to traffic rules in school zones," OPP noted.
