Bargain shoppers were out in force on Thursday day at Target stores in our region but while they were keen to get deals, some left disappointed.

Some shoppers say Thursday was the busiest they’ve seen Target since the excitement of opening day. But shoppers came out empty handed; saying the deals were not good enough and once again the retailer missed its mark.

“I came up thinking I would get a least 50% off or 30% but most of the stuff is only 10% or 20% off,” said one shopper.

Target Canada representatives told CTV News the liquidators manage the sale process itself so Target Canada would be commenting on the sale prices.

Those who took the time to seek out and buy and wait in-line say these days any deal makes a difference.

“I got 10% off a lot of things, 20% and a few things 30% so I’m pretty happy. Anywhere you can save is a good deal,” said another shopper.

Parking lots were jammed In Orillia, people say they can’t remember the last time the mall was the busy.

Despite the lack of sales forcing it to close in Canada, Target has been a draw in shopping centres. Retailers in the Orillia Square Mall say its disappearance will make a difference.

“I definitely feel Target is going to have an impact, for instance take a look at the traffic we are experiencing today. Great loss in general when one store closes, we like to keep our mall full,” says Michelle Griffiths with Griffin Jewellery Design.

Target hopes to be out of Canada before the summer with the goal of closing all of its stores by mid-May.
