A man believed to be in his late fifties has died following a single-vehicle collision into a tree.

The head-on crash happened just after 10 a.m. on Sunday morning on Macavalley Road and Lafontaine Road in Tiny Township.

Paramedics say they arrived on scene to find the man trapped inside his grey pick-up truck, he was vital signs absent.

First responders tried to free and save the man, but he was pronounced dead on scene.

Police are still trying to determine what caused the man to crash.

"The driving conditions were perfect, the road was dry, at that time of day there's a reasonably low traffic volume. It's unknown exactly what happened at this point," says OPP Sergeant Don James.

The OPP’s technical traffic collision investigators remain on location, working to reconstruct the scene.

Macavalley Road was closed for several hours, but reopened just before 3 p.m.
