A man is still fighting for his life in hospital Tuesday after he was attacked outside of a bar in Bradford Sunday.

And police are still searching for the person they say threw the punches.

Forensic investigators were searching a parking lot in downtown Bradford Monday where a man was seriously injured in fight Sunday night. It happened just before midnight behind the Eclipse Bar and Restaurant.

“I heard bottles smashing, people screaming, commotion,” says Dan Haggerty, who lives across the street. He rushed over when he heard the fight.

“There was a guy on the ground, blood coming out of his mouth every time he tried to breath,” he says. “My buddy and I rolled him over. Hopefully he's OK.”

The victim was taken to a Toronto hospital where he remains tonight with life-threatening head injuries. Police say the suspect was at Eclipse and was asked to leave by staff after causing a disturbance. He went out the back entrance and then attacked the victim in the parking lot.

“We don't believe it was targeted,” says South Simcoe Police Sgt. Brad Reynolds. “It was sort of the case where people were out at the back and this person was agitated and somehow they became involved in these assaults.”

Another man tried to stop the suspect and he was also injured but is expected to recover. Investigators don't believe a weapon was used. At this point they have a limited description of the suspect but say he is white, 25 years old, and has a rat tail with short hair on the sides. Police say his name might be Mike.

He was last seen leaving through the parking lot.

Haggerty believes he caught a glimpse of the suspect running through the parking lot when he rushed over to help.

“He blew past me,” he says. “He said these guys are trying to jump me and when I went over there was two guys on the ground.”

Investigators are reviewing security footage from the bar hoping it will have captured the attack and will better identify the suspect.

In the meantime, police are asking witnesses to contact them.
