A 22-year-old man has been pronounced dead in hospital after a police-involved shooting in Aurora Saturday night.

The shooting took place after police responded to a 911 call about a man with a gun near Leslie Street and State Farm Parkway around 9 p.m., York Regional Police said. There were also reports that people had been shot, YRP said in a tweet.

Officers attended the scene, encountered a man and then fired several shots.

Paramedics then rushed the man to hospital without vital signs.

There were no other reported injuries.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit has been called in to investigate. The SIU is an arm’s length agency called in to investigate whenever police are involved in a death or serious injury.
