Man faces assault, weapons charges after police standoff in Innisfil

Share

Police arrested and charged a man accused of assault after he barricaded himself inside an Innisfil home on Thursday.

South Simcoe police officers surrounded the area of Lilac Drive and Inglewood Drive after reports of a man armed with a knife around 4 p.m.

They say the man ran into a residence and refused to come out.

"Police set up containment of the home. Members of our Emergency Response Unit were on scene along with trained crisis negotiators, Simcoe EMS, and Barrie police," South Simcoe police stated in a release on Friday.

Following a roughly four-and-a-half-hour standoff, the accused was taken into police custody after officers obtained a Feeney Warrant, which gives police the power to enter a home to place someone under arrest.

No injuries were reported.

The 47-year-old man taken into custody faces two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Police did not provide details surrounding the alleged assaults, other than to confirm it involved two individuals.
