An 18-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a stabbing west of Barrie on Saturday night.

Police say it happened at home on Baldwick Lane in Springwater Township at around 9:30 p.m. when they got a report a man had been stabbed.

OPP say an initial investigation shows an argument between two men living in the home escalated and a man was stabbed repeatedly.

A 49-year-old man from Springwater Township was transported to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries but has since stabalized.

Neighbours tell CTV News they were surprised to see this happen in their small community.

"We are a very tight nit neighbourhood, we look after each other, and plain and simple when i saw something going on i went straight across the and that is when i learned he was stabbed," says neighbour Shawn Hendry.

The 18-year-old man has been charged with ‘Attempt to Commit Murder’ and was expected to make his first court appearance on Sunday in Newmarket.

The Huronia West Crime Unit is still investigating.
