Man charged after fleeing crash scene on foot

A man is facing multiple charges after allegedly driving while impaired and fleeing the scene of a crash in Oro-Medonte Saturday evening.
Orillia OPP officers were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Forbes Road and Old Barrie Road just after 6 p.m. According to police, witnesses claimed that one of the drivers fled the area by foot. Three of the passengers in the other involved vehicle were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Members of the Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Canine Unit then found the driver approximately 1.5 kilometres away from the crash scene and began an impaired driving investigation.
A 27-year-old Barrie man was arrested and charged with six offences, including impaired driving, failing to remain at the scene of a crash and careless driving. His license was suspended for 90 days, his vehicle was impounded for seven days, and he is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
