Barrie Police lifted a lockdown at a south Barrie high school Thursday afternoon.

Police had placed St. Peter's Catholic Secondary School under lockdown after receiving a call about a suspicious person.

Police responded just before 2 p.m. after a witness called and reported seeing a young man going into the high school with a weapon concealed underneath his jacket.

Saint John Paul II separate school was placed under hold and secure as a precaution.

There was a heavy police presence at the high school near Yonge Street and Big Bay Point Road while police investigated.

According to police, a 15-year-old student was located inside the high school and was not in possession of  a weapon.

Investigators say he was carrying a baseball bat and had practice at the high school.

The school board said students and staff were safe at all times and followed the lockdown procedure properly.

“I want to thank all staff and students for their cooperation and assistance, and certainly the Barrie Police Service for their quick response,” commented St. Peter’s principal, Heinrich Bebie.

The lockdown lasted about an hour and students were released to go home once it was lifted.

No charges were laid.
