Loaded firearm seized during search of vehicle at Innisfil R.I.D.E. checkpoint

A man from Innisfil is facing several weapons-related charges after officers conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) checkpoint on Innisfil Beach Road said they spotted open liquor inside a vehicle.
The officers stopped the vehicle shortly after 1 a.m. on Saturday in Innisfil and launched an investigation, allegedly finding a loaded firearm that had been stolen.

Along with the firearms offences, the 22-year-old accused was also charged with possessing stolen property and for having the open container of alcohol in the vehicle.
South Simcoe Police Chief John Van Dyke said the seizure highlights the importance of programs like R.I.D.E.
“Removing a loaded, stolen firearm from circulation prevents potential harm and underscores our commitment to community safety,” the chief noted.
R.I.D.E programs are conducted year-round as part of traffic safety initiatives aimed at removing potential impaired drivers from the roads.
