One dead, another hurt in Cambridge shooting

Gunshots ring out in Cambridge neighbourhood Police say a fatal shooting in Cambridge was targeted. Tyler Kelaher has the latest on the investigation.

One man has died and another man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a shooting Wednesday night in Cambridge.

At around 8:35 p.m., Waterloo Regional Police received reports of gunshots fired at a townhouse on Lena Crescent, in the residential area behind the Cambridge Centre.

“I got a text from my neighbour who had his window open,” explained one resident, who asked not to be identified. “He said he heard two pops.”

Police have called it a targeted shooting.

“Two males were located in the area, both suffering from gunshot wounds,” said Insp. Kyle Lambert.

One of them, a 40-year-old Cambridge man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

An injured 31-year-old man was found outside the townhome. He was taken to hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

Investigators could not say if the shooting happened inside or outside the townhome.

2023 shooting

Last June, police investigated a shooting at the same housing complex.

They said no one was hurt, but gunshots were fired at one of the homes and a vehicle was damaged.

“The same thing happened,” the neighbour told CTV News. “Lucky no one was hurt, but this the second shooting that I know of.”

Police have not said if the two incidents are believed to be connected.

Search for suspects

Officers continue to canvass the neighbourhood.

“We may be here for the morning today and potentially tomorrow as well,” said Lambert.

They’re looking to speak with any witnesses and collect security video of the area.

Police have not released any information on potential suspects but said the two men knew each other.

They are expected to release more information once the next-of-kin has been contacted.

Shootings in Waterloo Region

Police said there’s been 20 shootings in the Region of Waterloo in 2024.

The Lena Crescent shooting is the fourth homicide of the year, while six others resulted in an injury but not death.
