Innisfil's progress and investment plans highlighted by mayor at business breakfast

Innisfil Mayor Lynn Dollin held her annual mayor's breakfast Wednesday morning at Friday Harbour, with political and business leaders on hand to get an update on how things are moving forward in the town.

"Since the last mayor's business breakfast, there's been an incredible amount of progress in terms of our economic growth development," said Dollin while speaking to a group at the resort.

"We are doing all of the groundwork, all of the foundation work that needs to be done. We're doing all that so we can make it easier for businesses to come and move here and invest in our community and live in our community," the mayor said.

The mayor noted that the town's strategic economic development plan has focused on being investment-ready.

While she admitted housing growth has slowed in recent years, she said there has been plenty of interest from developers and investors looking to come to town.

"I think Innisfil right now is undervalued or overlooked. Innisfil is positioned, in my opinion, to take advantage of investors who are deliberately looking to expand their portfolios and bring in beautiful businesses and a great team to work with," said Tharshan Ilangovan, who works with people looking to make investments.

Tarpin Lumber and Truss opened its Innisfil business in 1986. It has plans to expand its operations over the next two years.

"The next few years are going to be fantastic for the housing industry in southern Ontario," said David Pratt with Tarpin Lumber and Truss.

The company supplies lumber, engineered wood and trusses to builders. Its owner said Innisfil's location is perfect for most businesses.

"First of all, we are right beside Highway 400. If you look at the area from Hamilton to Bowmanville, up to Newmarket, look at the population, and there's this little lumber yard, this little Tarpin Lumber sitting right beside that with access down the 400," noted Pratt.

Dollin said the town's economic development team is actively pursuing new investment for Innisfil. She said they are also working with all levels of government to make it easier for those companies to put down roots in the community.
