South Simcoe police were called to a residence in an Innisfil neighbourhood on Friday for medical service involving an infant.

Officers were seen on Algonquin Avenue throughout the day, as yellow police tape surrounded the home near Friday Harbour Resort.

Police confirmed on Tuesday its criminal investigation bureau is looking into an infant death.

The authorities remain tight-lipped on any details, including the baby’s age, gender and cause of death.

“The investigation is ongoing and is expected to be a lengthy process. At this time, we have no further information to provide,” the police service stated in a release.

“Given the highly sensitive nature of the matter, we request that the focus remain on respecting the privacy of everyone involved,” South Simcoe police concluded.

Police say the incident is isolated and there is no risk to public safety.
