The seven-court 20,000 square-foot venue is expected to be a hotspot for pickleball enthusiasts and beginners, and is located on the backside of HomeSense, which relocated to the former Sears last year..
"Barrie's newest sports facility will boast professional-grade courts featuring industry-leading surfaces and indirect lighting, ensuring the best playing conditions for participants. Attention to detail extends to the air and temperature control, which will provide a comfortable play environment year-round," Pickleplex Club released on Friday.
Pickleplex Club co-founder and president Steven Fry, who is also a Barrie native, says he's excited to bring his passion for the sport to his hometown.
"We've created a welcoming, community-focused venue where people can have fun, improve their skills, and connect with others," Fry noted.
The facility at 521 Bayfield Street is set to open later this year, with a grand opening to be announced at a later date.
