Spruce Glen Public School in Huntsville initiated a hold and secure on Thursday.

"In a hold and secure, exterior doors are locked and classroom routines and lessons continue as scheduled. Students are not permitted outside," the Trillium Lakelands District School Board noted.

"From conducting an indoor dismissal process where students are escorted to their buses or parent/guardian vehicles, to modifying how students are picked up at school during a hold and secure, Spruce Glen Public School students, staff, and families were patient and understanding during these unusual events," the board added.Bears roaming a community in Huntsville, Ont., on Thurs., Sept. 12, 2024. The school also initiated the security measure on Monday and Tuesday this week following sightings of what the principal said is a mother bear and her two cubs on the school property.

The school board says the Ministry of Natural Resources will relocate the animals.
