Highway 11 in Orillia fully reopened early Friday morning after it was closed for several hours on Thursday due to two separate collisions.

The crashes happened just north and south of Coldwater Road.

In the collision north of Coldwater Road - police tell CTV News a tractor-trailer hit the guardrail around 11:26 a.m. and ended up on its side. Gravel spilt across both the northbound and southbound lanes.

Around ten minutes later a three-vehicle crash happened just south of Coldwater Road, also in the northbound lanes. A man, in his 50’s, was airlifted by Ornge to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto with serious injuries.

The highway was closed in both directions to allow the gravel to be removed and to fix the guard rail.

The road fully reopened just after 4:00 a.m. Friday morning.
