Polling stations are open today for the 43rd federal election.

Elections Canada reports an estimated 4.7 million people cast ballots in advance polls last weekend.

There are 27.4 million eligible voters across the country.

CTV Barrie will have extensive coverage from nine ridings across our region.

Here's a breakdown of those ridings:

Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte

Voter turnout for the 2015 election was the closest race in our region, with a mere 86 votes separating Conservative Alex Nuttall from his Liberal rival.

Nuttall is not running for re-election, leaving Conservative Doug Shipley, Liberal Brian Kalliecharan, NDP's Dan Janssen, Green Party candidate Marty Lancaster, and People's Party candidate David Patterson to battle it out.

Barrie-Innisfil

Conservative incumbent John Brassard hopes to hold onto the riding.

Brassard is being challenged by Liberal candidate Lisa-Marie Wilson, NDP's Pekka Reinio, Green Party's Bonnie North, and Stephanie Robinson with the People's Party.

Simcoe-Grey

Conservative Kellie Leitch announced she would not seek a third term in this riding.

Terry Dowdall is representing for the Conservatives. He is up against five rivals: Liberal Lorne Kenny, NDP's Ilona Matthews, Green Party's Sherri Jackson, People's Party candidate Richard Sommer, and Tony D'Angelo representing the Veterans Coalition Party of Canada.

York-Simcoe

Scot Davidson aims to keep the riding blue after winning a by-election earlier this year after Peter Van Loan announced his retirement.

Davidson will battle Liberal Cynthia Wesley-Esquimaux, NDP's Jessa McLean, Green Party's Jonathan Arnold, Libertarian Keith Komar, and People's Party candidate Michael Lotter.

Simcoe-North

The Conservatives have dominated this riding through the years.

Conservative Bruce Stanton has been the riding's Member of Parliament since 2006 and is, once again, seeking re-election.

Also hoping to represent the riding is Liberal Gerry Hawes, NDP's angelique Belcourt, Green Party's Valerie Powell, People Party's Stephen Makk and Christian Heritage Party's Chris Brown.

Parry Sound-Muskoka

MP Tony Clement has held this riding since 2006. He announced he would retire following this term.

Conservative Scott Aitchison will look to keep the riding blue.

Liberal Trisha Cowie, NDP's Tom Young, Green Party's Gord Miller, and Independent Daniel Predie Jr. look to paint the riding a new colour.

Grey-Bruce-Owen Sound

Conservative Larry Miller has represented the region since 2004; he has since retired.

Tory Alex Ruff will take on Liberal Micahel Den Tandt, NDP's Chris Stephen, Green Party's Danielle Valiquette, People Party's Bill Townsend, and Libertarian Daniel Little.

Dufferin-Caledon

Conservative David Tilson held this riding since 2004, but he is not seeking re-election. In his place, Kyle Seeback will aim to keep the region blue.

Also running are Liberal Michael Fisher, NDP candidate Allison Brown, Green Party's Stefan Wiesen, People's Party candidate Chad Ransom, and Christian Heritage Party's Russ Emo.

Newmarket-Aurora

Liberal Kyle Peterson won this riding in 2015. He has chosen not to run for re-election, leaving Tony Van Bynen to represent for the party.

Conservative Lois Brown, who was the riding's MP from 2008-2015, is looking to take it back. She will also battle the NDP's Yvonne Kelly, Green Party candidate Walter Bauer, PC Party's Dorian Baxter, Laurie Goble with the Parti Rhinocéros Party, and the People Party's Andrew McCaughtrie.
