An active 55+ plus retirement community is officially coming to Bradford West Gwillimbury.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Wednesday to mark the start of construction at the new Wellings of Bradford site, located at 397 Langford Boulevard.

Wellings of Bradford is a four-storey mid-rise building comprising 76 one- and two-bedroom suites and a clubhouse that aims to keep seniors active in their retirement.

"The foundational pillar of the model is socialization," said Kevin Pidgeon, COO and President of Nautical Lands Management, the parent company of Wellings Communities. "So the most important thing is that we have people in the building that are going to be part of the various clubs that are there and are going to really, really engage in the amenities and gathering spaces that are created throughout the building."

Construction on the new site is expected to be complete in just over a year.
