A Gravenhurst man had to fight off three men with the help of his adult son Thursday night during a violent home invasion.

Today, OPP say three men have been arrested in Gravenhurst in connection to the home invasion.

One of the victims, Joe Couling, says he woke up to someone on top of him, and then a fight broke out.

“You don't expect that stuff here in Gravenhurst. What do you do, eh? Guess it can happen anywhere,” says Couling.

The Gravenhurst man is still fixing up his apartment today after three men broke in while he was home with his adult son.

“I was sleeping on my couch and then the back door got booted in. And then, I just woke up to somebody on top of me,” he says.

It happened above an antique store in downtown Gravenhurst. Couling says the attack lasted almost 15 minutes.

“My son had one over there. And two of them, I had him in a headlock, and then ah, the third guy was smashing me with my shovel. He hit me in the head,” Couling says.

But Couling and his son fought back. The three suspects took off down a back stairwell. Police say the three men were later found and arrested. They have been charged with assault and break and enter.

OPP confirm an assault took place inside the apartment but won’t say if the suspects were hurt.

Couling says his son stabbed at least one of the men in self-defence with a kitchen knife. His son posted a couple of pictures to Facebook after the attack, of the mess left behind. And he also posted this comment: “Got home invaded last night 3 guys kicked my door in and tried to kill me and my dad I punched there **** faces right in and stabbed the **** out of them and I mean I stabbed the **** good buried two butcher knifes in em (sic)."

Those posts have since been taken down from Facebook.

Marty Saar owns the store right below the apartment.

“It being my business here, you’re surprised when something like that happens above you,” Saar says.

Couling says he is keeping his doors locked tonight. He even has a baseball bat and sword sitting next to his couch just in case.

When asked if he was worried about any other repercussions, he replies: “Well, the cops told me I should. So I mean, yeah, I am worried now.”

Police aren't saying what might have prompted the attack.  But Couling says his son knew two of the three alleged attackers.

The three men who were charged have been released from custody pending their next court appearances.
