Funeral arrangements have been made for a former Barrie Colt who died in a crash on Highway 401.

Former goalie John Chartrand died on Friday after his car collided into the back of a truck on the 401, near Victoria Park.

Chartrand played for the Colts for a short time during the 2010-11 season. The 24-year-old later played with several other teams, including the Belleville Bulls.

Visitation is for his funeral is set for Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bernardo Funeral Homes, located at 2960 Dufferin Street in Toronto.

Chartrand is being remembered by his family, girlfriend and 10-month-old son Chace.

“He was the light of our lives, so loving and always putting others first. Always smiling bright, he was always ready to have a good time. He was kind, outgoing, intelligent, athletically talented and so carefree,” his obituary reads.

“He loved Chace more than anything, consistently talking about all the memories to come.” 

A GoFundMe account has also been setup to help raise money to start a college fund for Chace. So far it has raised more than a thousand dollars.
