Frustration grows amongst Canada Post workers in Simcoe County

Another day on the picket line as the frustration among Canada Post workers continues to grow.

“This whole situation is not where we want to be but you know it’s got to be done… this company has taken too much from us so it’s time for us to stand up,” said Ken Lloyd a Canada Post worker.

As Canada Post and it's workers wait for a possible deal, union members across the county are hoping for a speedy and favorable agreement.

“It’s hard because are out here we all have mortgages to pay and bills to pay and rent to pay and we are not getting much money and we need to be back to work to serve the public,” said from Paul Slingsby a local resident.

With Canada Post delivery on hold until further notice people, businesses and charities are going to have to adjust to the work stoppage.

For example, people who still receive bills in the mail could face new challenges in making their payments.

“I have to keep on my bills because they are not coming in and I don’t want to be owing the utility companies,” said James Floro.

Anyone wishing to mail out a Christmas card over the holidays will also have to look at other options.

“I do send out cards and I am definitely making a change on if I am going to or not,” said a local resident.

Many local charities are also bracing for challenges... especially with the Christmas season just weeks away.

“This... the mail is a manner in which we get to our donors to tell our story, there are a number of our individual donors that depend on mail, and now they are just not getting it. Yeah, we definitely will feel an impact on our direct mailing,” said Frank Cerisano from Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation.”

So for now, the pickets remain up as those on the picket line would rather be working while a deal is being negotiated. As for local charities, they simply say they are hoping people chose to donate online during the holiday season and until postal service is restored.
