Provincial police say the former treasurer of the Royal Canadian Legion in Flesherton is facing theft and fraud charges.

Police say the president of the Legion branch reported in February that approximately $16,000 was missing.

Investigators say an independent forensic financial audit was conducted and an arrest warrant was issued for the accused after he failed to meet with police and refused requests for contact.

They say the 52-year-old surrendered at the Chatsworth OPP detachment last week.

A Grey Highlands man is charged with theft over $5,000, fraud over $5,000, falsification of books and documents, criminal breach of trust and unlawful use of military uniforms.

He is scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound, Ont., on Aug. 9.
