A family in Mono Township has lost its house after  it was destroyed in a devastating fire Saturday afternoon.

According to the deputy fire chief in Caledon crews arrived just after 1:30 this afternoon to find a house fully engulfed in flames on the 4th line east, north of Hockley road.

Smoke was visible from quite a distance. Help from other fire stations was needed and water had to be trucked in. Crews say the fire was so widespread they still haven’t been able to enter the house.

The family, a couple with several children, was able to escape without injuries.

The office of the Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate. The cause isn’t known yet, but the homeowner told the chief it appears as though the fire started in the garage and spread to the house.
