Damage to a home in Barrie is estimated at more than half a million dollars after a fire broke out on Sunday morning.

Barrie fire crews were called to a home on Carruthers Crescent, at around 5 a.m. When crews arrived they were met by large flames that had engulfed the home.

Four people were inside the house when the fire broke out – there’s no word yet if they were injured.

Investigators say damage is estimated at more than $500,000 and the cause has been determined to be careless smoking.
