Fire at Blue Mountains chalet causes significant damage
A Saturday evening fire in the Town of the Blue Mountains caused significant damage at a residential chalet near the ski resort.
The Town of the Blue Mountains fire chief told CTV News that a neighbour heard the smoke alarm sounding at a Margaret Drive chalet around 6:30 p.m. and made the 9-1-1 call upon noticing smoke in the basement.
24 firefighters responded to the scene and helped extinguish the fire. No occupants were in the residence at the time, and no injuries were reported. The chalet belongs to a Hamilton-based owner.
The Blue Mountains fire chief says the fire originated in the basement service room and caused an estimated $1-million in damages. However, no heating appliances were on at the time, and the exact cause remains under investigation.
The fire is not deemed suspicious.
