Family-owned Barrie business launches food drive to help others in need this holiday season
A local family-owned business wants to do its part to ensure families in Barrie have food on their tables this holiday season with the launch of its Holiday Food Drive in support of the Barrie Food Bank.
The owner of Midas on Mapleview, Anil Kumar and his family, officially christened the campaign Friday morning.
Kumar says all the proceeds this year going toward those most in need.
"I would like to get at least two to three hundred people this year I want to spread the love to, and I would like to donate from our shop, and we need to do something for people,” said Kumar. “This is a tough time and tough situation and all the help we can get and all the love we can spread is the best for the world.”

Kumar, along with his family and staff have been busy decorating their south Barrie shop and say they'd love nothing more than to see the large bin at the entrance of their store filled with food donations.
Kumar, who has owned the shop for 18 years and has held several other campaigns in the past over the holidays, is encouraging customers or anyone who would like to donate to swing by his 221 Mapleview Drive West Barrie location to drop off any non-perishable food items or gifts to ensure no one goes hungry this holiday season.
He said the food drive is in partnership with Tesla Owners Ontario. He hopes to make the food drive an annual campaign.
