A cat was rescued from a home after a late afternoon fire in Barrie.

Flames were spotted coming from a garage on Tower Crescent on Tuesday, at around 3:45 p.m. The fire ended up breaching a door and made its way into a house.

The homeowner was able to get out safely, but a family cat had to be rescued by firefighters. Crews had to administer oxygen once the pet was brought outside.

Officials say damage is considered significant. Crews are still searching for a cause.

The fire is now out and the investigation is ongoing.
