A 32-year-old man is facing charges after police say his vehicle struck a child in an Owen Sound intersection.

Police say the 11-year-old was walking in the crosswalk at 10th Street West and 8th Avenue West Thursday morning when a BMW attempting to turn right into a plaza struck the child.

Paramedics took the child to a local hospital to be treated for what are described as minor injuries.

Police reduced 10th Street West to one lane for the investigation.

The BMW driver, from Owen Sound, faces charges of careless driving and failing to yield to a pedestrian.
