Provincial police are treating the discovery of a body in the Town of Erin as a homicide.

The body of a 65-year-old man was found on Thursday, in a wooded area off of Wellington Road 124 in Erin, which is located just south of Orangeville. The body was found by firefighters, who were called to the area to deal with a small brush fire.

An autopsy was conducted on Saturday and the results led police to treat the death as a homicide. The exact cause has not been released, as it is being treated as evidence.

Police believe the man travelled to Erin from eastern Ontario – arriving in the town on Wednesday or early Thursday morning.

The identity of the man won’t be released until next of kin have been notified.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
