Public health officials are suggesting people in York Region to move forward with caution as COVID-19 cases surge.

"Our average daily case count is now 66, and so that has gone up from week-to-week," said an associate medical officer of health, Dr. Fareen Karachiwalla.

The upward creep in the number of hospitalizations has Karachiwalla concerned. "Not to the same degree as it was in wave one," she said. "But it is trending up, so all very concerning from our point of view."

Premier Doug Ford said Queen's Park is keeping watch on York Region after the province shifted Toronto, Peel Region and Ottawa back to Stage 2 as cases rose in those areas.

"York's teetering," the premier said. "We're keeping a very close eye on York right now. It's concerning."
