County Road 4 in Bradford West Gwillimbury reopened to traffic one week ahead of schedule following a lengthy closure that started in October.

The County said crews replaced the oversized Scanlon Creek culvert at the County Road 4 and Line 10 intersection, noting the long road closure paid off, saving up to four months of construction and over $1 million in costs.

The 10-kilometre, $17M project is split into three phases.

“The Scanlon Creek replacement was part of phase 1 of a larger reconstruction project aimed at widening County Road 4 from north of Line 8 to County Road 89,” the County stated.

The County said the remaining work in phase 1 doesn’t require another full road closure and should be completed next year.

The project will widen County Road 4 to four lanes to improve traffic flow.
