Construction crew jumps into action when fire breaks out in Huntsville home

A construction crew working on the exterior of a home in Huntsville Monday morning is credited with helping contain a fire that broke out.
Nearly two dozen firefighters and five trucks responded to the call about a fire on South Portage Road.
Officials say the three construction workers heard smoke alarms going off and jumped into action, grabbing a portable fire extinguisher and buckets of water.

Fire crews found a small fire inside a wall and quickly prevented it from spreading throughout the home.
“The cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical malfunction involving a wall outlet,” the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department stated in a release.
The fire has been deemed accidental. A damage estimate was not provided.
Officials say the homeowner had recently replaced the smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, which alerted the construction crew to the fire before it could get out of control.
The incident prompted the department to provide tips for homeowners, including knowing where fire extinguishers, electrical panels, and gas and water shut-off valves are located.
No injuries were reported.
