Barrie Colts owner Howie Campbell, as well as the captain and alternate captain of the Colts, Brandt Clarke and Jacob Frasca visited the two patients at RVH this week.
"Me and ‘Clarkey’ jumped on it right away. We wanted to do it and put smiles on people's faces as it brings you a lot of joy, " Frasca said.
"You feel bad for them, but at the same time, it was good to go there and see them in person."
In a statement released online, Empower Simcoe states, "They want you to know how grateful they are for the outpouring of thoughts, prayers and wishes of support from everyone in our community."
Marty Williamson, Colts’ head coach, said the team feels a connection to the community and its fans and suggested a visit to the hospital is more of an honour for the players.
"When they can go and put a smile on somebody’s face, it’s a great thing. You know how they enjoy the little gifts that we gave them and that kind of stuff. It’s a fantastic event when our guys can get out in the community, " Williamson said.
Cassie Korzenko, the woman accused of seriously injuring the three pedestrians, was held at the Central North Correctional Centre in Penetanguishene since the incident and was recently released on Jan. 25.
She faces three counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm. The allegations have not been tested in court.
A fourth person, a man in his 70s, was struck and seriously injured after being struck at the same intersection one month earlier.
