A clothing dryer malfunction was deemed the cause of a fire in Owen Sound on Sunday afternoon.

Fire crews and emergency services responded to a structure fire with heavy smoke coming from the 2nd-floor window in the 1000 block of 6th Avenue West at around 12:30 p.m.

Fire crews entered and searched the home for the fire, locating it in a small basement area. The fire was quickly extinguished, and the rest of the home was saved, but $10,000 of damage is estimated to have been done.

Owen Sound Fire says the cause was the dryer malfunctioning and reminds residents to clean their lint traps and vents regularly.

There were no injuries in the fire.
