Charges have been laid after two dogs were found locked in vehicles in the Collingwood area.

The first dog was found locked in a parked van with the windows shut in a parking lot at Blue Mountain Resort on Monday afternoon. The OPP say the dog appeared to be in distress.

According to investigators, an officer smashed a window and pulled the dog out of the van. The officer immediately provided the dog with water in an effort to cool it down.

The owner, a 77-year-old Oakville woman, was charged under the town’s bylaw.

A few hours later, a dog was spotted in distress in a vehicle parked in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Collingwood.  In this case, police say the windows were slightly open.

The owner, a 55-year-old Collingwood man, returned to the scene and was also charged under the bylaw.

The OPP are reminding people not to leave their pets unattended in parked vehicles.
