Building a house for Habitat for Humanity has become part of the curriculum for some Georgian College students.

Students at the Muskoka campus are working on the house in Gravenhurst two days a week and they’re excited about the chance to gain some practical experience:

“You know we're out of the classroom so to get some on the job experience is really valuable,” says student David Turner.

“I haven't built a house before,” says Joel Rhiness. “I've done decks and stuff so it's all new to me and it's great for future references.”

Rhiness also loves the feeling of helping out in the community:

“They help people out if they need a home…if people are struggling.”

Homes that Habitat for Humanity build are sold with an interest-free mortgage to help families that struggle financially.

The house that the Georgian College students are building is going to an alumna of Georgian’s office administration program.
